If you have some time off with the kids over School Half Term next week and are looking for ideas for what to do with them, then look no further!
I have been looking around to gather ideas, and firstly, everything seems amazing, but secondly so expensive! Come on, we have a week to keep crazy kids entertained. I can’t afford attraction entrance tickets every day, so here are my lower key ideas.
Luckily for us, everywhere seems to be geared up with Halloween walks, activities and events. From pumpkin picking, spooky trails and craft activities, there’s a lot to keep everyone entertained…providing the weather stays dry.
Lichfield Beacon Park: Halloween Puzzle Trail
Head to the beautiful Beacon Park in Lichfield and pick up a Halloween Puzzle Trail for £1 per child which includes a small prize.
Kingsbury Water Park: Halloween Activities
Kingsbury Water Park near Tamworth and Sutton Coldfield has lots of events on over the half term including Bonfire Dens and Toffee Apples, Halloween Lanterns and Cobweb Dreamcatchers. Activities cost from £2 to £3.50 per child and you meet at the Education Centre.
I always have a beef with Kingsbury Water Park though as you have to pay to get in to the car park. Which is fine. But when I last paid it was cash only and because I couldn’t find any I held up the traffic and the man on the gates was so unhelpful. So I park by the other side of the park in Kingsbury and walk through, which is really pretty and the thought of the amazing playground keeps us going.
National Trust Adventures: Spooky Trails
There are some great National Trust properties in or near the Midlands and they all seem to have the same ideas for Half Term. We are members, so free entry, so I count this as a low cost option.
Some of my favourites include Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire; Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House near Solihull; Charlcote Park and Coughton Court in Warwickshire which all have a Spooky Outdoor Trails from 20p to £2.50 per child.
Kids Club Cinema: Cheap Cinema Tickets
Hurray for Kids Club at the cinema! Our local one in Tamworth has all the summer blockbuster kids’ films on this half term for £2.50 per person. So we have the BFG, Finding Dory, Pete’s Dragon and The Secret Life of Pets to choose from. Trolls… you can wait until Christmas!
Tamworth Castle: Haunted Castle
This may be a bit over my budget, but I have been meaning to visit our local castle again for some time. Tamworth Castle has such a rich history and at half term they have a week of ghostly goings on. It is £7 per adult and £5 per child over 5, and £3 for children 2 to 4. However, there is the castle grounds to play in before or after with a great playground – or soft play at the bowling alley if the weather is not so good.
Local Garden Centres
Head to your local garden centre if the weather isn’t so great. Wyevale near Shenstone in Lichfield have some great Halloween events on such as pumpkin carving, heather planting and fangtastic party. And Planters near Tamworth is great with its Christmas decorations up, pets, outside playground, Highropes and new restaurant.
